ONE THING is for sure. Kmart is so hot right now.
It was evidenced last month when its $89 vacuum cleaner gave a Dyson a run for its money, and again . And now people are going bonkers about a hack that turns a couple of items from the Kmart home range into a bento lunch box. Which will make your child look very sophisticated in the school playground.
Facebook user Rough Diamond reposted the hack on her page, writing “just a wee bit of genius from @reve.ever … a very handy #kmarthack using the large ice cube trays (… which make amazing ice cubes with a wedge of lime frozen in them) and the Kmart container for your very own bento box”.
So here is what you need:
The $3 rectangular 600ml clip container
The giant ice cube tray
- The which, GET THIS, was $2 and is now $1.50. The giant ice trays would also come into their own for a giant gin and tonic. Just sayin’.
Put simply, you jam one into the other and voila: Bento lunch box.
Amanda Hale, who originally posted the hack on Facebook pointed out that she trimmed the sides of the ice cube tray a little to make it fit perfectly.
The hack has been liked on Facebook more than 6000 times, with people posting pictures of their “genius” bento boxes in the comments section.
The trick has been applauded by members of the as a clever way to control portions and make lunches more interesting for kids.
They also say it’s easy to wash, and much cheaper than other branded bento boxes.
So now for the low, low cost of $4.50 you can make your kid a bento lunch box and feel pretty smug about how you are better and craftier than all the other parents.
Because that is what life is all about.
